Macdonald triumphs

Bruce Macdonald, of the Olympic Christchurch Club, won the D.B. Great Westland Marathon from Greymouth to Hokitika on Saturday, claiming the Canterbury title. Macdonald took over after 20 miles from the front-run-ning John Boland (Hokitika), who hung on for second place. Eddie Gray (Greymouth) won the half-marathon from Acre Creek near Kumara Junction to Hokitika. The marathon was run in warm, sunny conditions.

It attracted 78 entries covering open, veterans and womem, and the halfmarathon attracted 177.
