Rally platings

NZPA Kuala Lumpur All three New Zealand cars were among the 33 finishers of the rally of Malaysia which ended on Monday. Possum Bourne and Roger Freeth (Subaru Turbo RX) improved to fourth place when Australian Rodd Dunkerton retired with transmission failure. Ray Wilson and Stuart Lewis held eleventh place, driving the locally prepared Mazda 323 4WD. Murray Walker and Warren Jones, of Whakatane, driving a Suzuki Swift fell off the road on special stage 28 to finally finish in twenty-first place. The new Mitsubishi Galant filled the first three places with Finn Lassi Lampi first, T. Endo of Japan second, and Shinazuka of Japan third. The rally was the second round of the Asia-Pacific rally championship.
