Hadlee request turned down
Richard Hadlee will not be permitted to unleash his fast bowling fury on the batsmen of the Canterbury Cricket Association’s second grade club competition. The association’s competitions sub-committee has ruled against Hadlee playing for the High School Old Boys second XL Old Boys requested a ruling on whether Hadlee could play second grade in one round when he was not available for a full two-day first grade fixture. But the, sub-committee resolved that such a situation would infringe the rule relating to players playing unfairly out of their grades. If Hadlee feels he needs an additional work-out before the New Zealand tour of India — his chance to become the most prolific wicket-taker in test history — he must turn to the president’s grade, the only one-day grade for which he is eligible. Many proficient players have joined the president’s grade on a permanent basis before reaching Hadlee’s age of 37.
