In brief
Attempted indecency A man stopped a boy, aged 13, to ask directions then attempted to expose himself. The boy was cycling down Papanui Road about 5 p.m. on Sunday when a Polynesian man on a bicycle stopped him and asked for directions. As the boy was giving directions the man unzipped his fly and began to undo his trousers. The boy left on his bicycle and rode to The Elms Hotel, where he told a tour director about the incident. The man on the bicycle followed the boy into the hotel but denied that he had done anything wrong and then left. The man was described as aged in his late 20s, about 175 cm tall, overweight and clean shaven. He was wearing a black jersey, jeans and sunglasses and was riding an older model black 10 speed with upturned handle bars. Smash and grab Five leather jackets were stolen from Parallel Lines menswear, Riccarton, in a smash-and-grab robbery early yesterday morning. A stone was thrown through the front window of the store on Riccarton Road about 3.15 a.m. Eight brass Zippo lighters were also taken. Drug cabinet besieged Burglars attempted to open a drug cabinet in the Selwyn Village Pharmacy early yesterday morning. A sledgehammer was used to smash a glass door to gain entry to the shop but the offenders were unable to get the drug cabinet open.
