Science award to Chch pupil
PA Dunedin A Christchurch schoolboy’s project on superconductors won the 1.C.1. New Zealand Science Fair premier award in Dunedin on Saturday. Andrew Richards, aged 17, of Burnside High School is also won the Kiwanis Travel Award. The science fair, which opened on September 23, runs until Wednesday. The Science Teachers’ Award went to Louis Tapper of Bayfield High School, Dunedin, with his project “Making the Plunge.” Abigail McArthur of Rangitoto College in Auckland won a special merit prize with the judges’ commendation for her project, “The Hall
Effect.” Winners of special merit prizes were Nathalie Morris of Palmerston North Girls High School, Philip Misir of Takapuna Normal Intermediate, Megan Adam and Bernadine Lim of Sacred Heart College, Marie Schaffer of Waitaki Girls High School and Anna Moodie of Samuel Marsden School. Merit awards went to Alexander Thomson of Bucklands Beach Intermediate, Tania Scott and Jenny Gilbert of Morrinsville College, Jason Gill of Spotswood College, Chris Sinclair and Joshua Topp of St Andrew’s College, and Nicholas Fay and Bryce Williams of Otago Boys High School.
