N.Z. selector at mini tournament

PA Blenheim Marlborough’s top volleyball players will come under the eye of New Zealand selector John Hoare at a mini tournament at the Woodbourne gymnasium today. The purpose of the tournament is to aid national selectors in their quest for players for the national men’s and junior sides to play a series of games later in the year. Originally Canterbury was intending to play but it has been unable to attend so Marlborough will play only two matches against Wellington juniors and its senior team. The Marlborough men’s A team has combined with Nel-

son for the competition and formed a squad which is expected to be very competitive against the visitors. The team will be headed by the international player, Mark Dixon, and the Western Samoan representative, Tasi Pulieata, with Michael Gunstone and Richard Tomlinson the other Marlborough players in the team. The two Nelson men in the squad are Warren Smith and Danny Bright while local Roy Titheridge is the coach of the Marlborough/Nelson side. The Nelson juniors look set to provide a wide range of skills which it has previously shown during its Top of the South games during the winter season.
