Another suburban P.O. to close

New Zealand Post announced yesterday that Greenhaven Post Office would close on October 15. The post office is in a shopping centre opposite the Burwood Hospital. The Christchurch District manager for New Zealand Post, Mr Pat Nicholas, said a suitable shop was being sought to take over the postal services on contract. “We are attempting to reduce costs, and this is the way to do it and keep the service.” The need for outlets was constantly being reviewed.
There was a staff of one at the Greenhaven P.O. and New Zea-
land Post was “looking at options,” for him, he said. The senior executive officer for the Canterbury Hospital Board, Mr Jack Wright, said he did not know what effect the closing would have on Burwood Hospital patients who used the post office. “We had a similar problem at The Princess Margaret Hospital, but there the post office was right inside the hospital. “A patient at Burwood would actually have to walk outside to the post office, so there are probably fewer patients using it.” Mr Nicholas said the Greenhaven building was shared with Postßank and he believed the bank would continue.
