City’s dearest named today

The identity of probably Christchurch’s highest paid local government employee will be known today when the Christchurch City Council announces its new promotions director. The director, believed to be a Christchurch woman, will get a salary and expenses package of $120,000 to put Christchurch on the international map. The council established the position in March and a subcommittee of council staff and businesspeople has selected the successful applicant. The director’s job description is to secure for Christchurch events comparable to the Adelaide Grand Prix and the Wellington International Festival of Arts. The council’s aim is to develop a distinct identity for Christchurch that will attract visitors and business. The announcement of the successful applicant has been delayed because her employer has been overseas.
