Import, export values drop
By BRENDON BURNS A drop in the value of both goods imported and exported into New Zealand was experienced last month.
The July figures from the Statistics Department for merchandise trade show exports were down 5 per cent on July, 1987. Imports were down 12.4 per cent. The Opposition acting spokesman on finance, Mr Doug Kidd, said the statistics. showed a huge loss of jobs and declining living standards. Meat and edible offal exports were down to $194.5 million, a 20.9 per cent drop on July last year, while fruit exports were down 12.6 per cent to $BO.l million. Over all, there was an excess of exports over imports of $56.7 million for July, 1988, compared with a $24.7 million deficit for July, 1987.
