Rush fails again
PA London "Them’s the breaks,” said a disappointed Philip Rush yesterday after missing out for the second time in less than a week to smash another Channel swim record and a chance to confirm his status as the greatest ever Channel swimmer. r The Lower Hutt insurance salesman’s time for the England-France crossing of one of the most dangerous stretches of water in the world, was eight hours 11 minutes. This was an improvement of 44 minutes on last week’s swim but 31 minutes outside the American Penny Dean’s record of seven hours 40 minutes set in 1978. He has not decided whether to make another attempt.
