Injured Barnett may miss Test debut
NZPA-Reuter London Kim Barnett may again miss his chance of an England test debut after breaking his nose during Derbyshire’s Sunday League cricket match against Lancashire. Barnett, who hopes to play in the test against Sri Lanka starting at Lord’s tomorrow, had three stitches put in a deep cut near the bridge of his nose and returned to bat with a dressing protecting the wound. But his side failed to stop third-placed Lancashire keep-' ing their title hopes alive with a narrow win. After scoring 200 for seven, with Hayhurst hitting a top
score of 71, Lancashire won by just two runs with one ball left. The win puts Lancashire into second place, above last week’s leaders Middlesex who did not play on Sunday. Worcestershire took over the top spot after overcoming Essex to extend its unbeaten run to nine games and now needs only to avoid defeat in its final match against Warwickshire to retain the title. The pacemen, Paul Pridgeon took four for 36, and Neal Radford three for 29, as Essex crashed to 161 all out in reply to Worcestershire’s 179 for four.
