Winds hinder yachts

PA Mooloolaba A fickle on-shore breeze frustrated yachts as they headed out of Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast at midday yesterday on the second leg of the Bicentennial Around Australia race.

A south-easterly of less than five knots slowed the thirteen, two-handed crews as they set out on a 770 nautical mile race that will take them virtually from one end of Queensland to the other — from Mooloolaba, near Brisbane, to Cairns.

After 45 minutes sailing yesterday Steinlager 1 was once again out in front and extending her five hour lead from the troubled first leg.
