Parish activity priority for new registrar
Getting from behind the desk regularly to encourage parish activity is a priority for the recently appointed Christchurch Anglican Diocesan Registrar, Dr Paul Goodson. Dr Goodson said if he ever began to feel cut off from people in the parishes he would know he was falling in his job. As registrar he is responsible for the administration of the Christchurch Anglican Diocese which covers the Chatham Islands, Canterbury Province and the West Coast south of the Taramakau River. "I intend to do a
lot of travelling,” Dr Goodson said. Dr Goodson was born in Dunedin and has a Ph.D. in English literature from the University of Edinburgh. His thesis was on eighteenth century musical and literary theory. He is an accomplished pianist and teaches in the English and music departments at the University of Canterbury and is a music critic for “The Press.” His administrative skills were honed working for the Faculty of Advocates in Edinburgh and in administrative positions at the universities of Edin-
burgh and Canterbury.
“I have been connected with the Anglican Church for much of my life,” said Dr Goodson. He said he was excited and challenged by his new job and he would like to get the administrative side of the job running smoothly so he could devote more time to other aspects of Church work.
“The Anglican Church has great strengths, its resources, its tolerance and its strong historic base. It has a great future as long as it’s willing to adapt and not stand apart from society.”
