Former staff still in limbo

PA Wellington The future of 87 former staff of the Ministry of Works still needed to be sorted out, Works Corporation executives said. When the Ministry of Works and Development gave way to the Works Corporation in April, the future of 375 people went into limbo. The residual management head, Mr Ross Howard, said there was now only a small number of former works staff being paid but not working.

Paying former staff to stay home has cost more than $200,000. Mr Howard said of the 288 former works staff whose future was resolved that a lot had found jobs in the new Works Corporation or other agencies. A substantial group had taken retirement.
