Social policy
Sir,—l must agree with A. B. f Hille (June 14), but for different reasons, that “while we are reconsidering social policy, we can gain from the current debate in Britain.” It is a long-standing tradition in certain political circles that when some, pet nostrum or other is obviously indefensible, then there is nothing quite like “the Word of God” for providing the requisite political' endorsement The Bible provides holy slogans for almost every occasion. Mrs Thatcher is deeply committed to this tradition, as indeed are many of her New Zealand pocket editions. — Yours, etc., j * DAVID SHANKS. June 14,1988. -
