Jazzman, Apple Pie work well
By DAVID MCCARTHY Fast times were not the order of the day at Riccarton yesterday morning when even the normally optimistic No. 1 grass was too soggy to turn up with its usual fast times. Any horse running home 800 m In better than 53s was working well against the clock and that made Jazzman and Apple Pie two Riccarton candidates to come up with good efforts. i Jazzman, which has not been tried in wet footing on raceday, went 800 m with Warwick Satherley up and in company of Rockaway Rose and Cool Ace. The time of 51.9 s late in the session was a smart' run and Jazzman looked to be doing his work well. Kim Clapperton who combined so well with the Kevin Thomson team at Timaru is not returning to ride at Riccarton tomorrow with Terry Kennedy filling in on most of the Thomson team. Apple Pie, with Marin Ritchie up, in her gallop came home the last 600 m in 38.8 s doing her work nicely She looks to' have trained on nicely since her easy Timaru victory.
