Canty well represented in junior hockey teams

Canterbury is well represented in two New Zealand junior women’s hockey squads from which national teams to play in Australia later in the year will be named. Five Canterbury players are in the New Zealand junior women’s (under 21) squad of 26 which will have a week-end of trials in Wellington on July 16 and 17.

At the end of the trials a team to play in the Oceania Junior World Cup qualifying tournament, in Brisbane in late November, will be named. The 18 and under squad of 26 players includes six from Canterbury. The squad will have trials in Wellington on the weekend of June 18 and 19. A team to play in the

Australian 18 years and under inter-state tournament in Brisbane in August will be announced at the conclusion of the trials.

The selectors of the 18 years and under squad are Marianne Gray (Hawke’s Bay), David Page (Manawatu) and Dayle Jackson (Wellington). The junior women’s selectors are Mrs Gray, Aileen Doig (Ashburton) and Ann Booth .(Wairarapa).
