Four Flynns line up

Hollywood had its Marx brothers, Sydenham has its Flynn brothers — but this rugby-loving family is not playing for laughs. There will be four Flynns in the Sydenham senior lineup in the next round of the Trust Bank Cup competition this Sunday, because of the return to rugby of Jamie Flynn, who has completed his two-week qualifying period after footballing experience in Italy.

Jamie Flynn’s fame has preceded him; he spent

the last two winters in the deep south playing for Invercargill Star, and Southland, and was named Southland’s “player of the year” for 1987.

He has also played for New Zealand Colts, and has been added to the Town senior squad, without appearing in a Christchurch interclub match.

His three brothers, Kieran, a centre, Aaron, halfback, and Mark, flanker, all scored tries in Sydenham’s record-break-

ing, 64-6, win over Merivale at Sydenham Park last Saturday. Kieran, who has played for both Southland and Canterbury, is a member of the current Town squad for seniors, and Aaron is in the Town colts combination.

But Sydenham will need all the Flynn family magic if it is to succeed in its ninth round match on Sunday. The opponent will be University, unbeaten in a record-breaking streak of 37 consecutive matches.
