Millionaire in High Court
PA Auckland ; I John Berridge Spencer, described as one of the wealthiest persons in New Zealand, was yesterday at the centre of a High Court action over an alleged debt of $108,146. The action concerns payments )on a home being built on a site on the | banks of Tamaki River estuary in Panmure and owned by a Spencer family trust. ( A Karaka-based , builder, Mr Roy Mulholland, was contracted to build the house and outbuildings. He allegedly walked off the site year with his company, R.
J. Mulholland, Ltd, being owed $108,146. He seeks a summary judgment for that amount, plus GST and interest, from Mr Spencer and his brother, Peter. Decision was reserved.
Counsel for the builder, Mr Murray Earl, said his client received progress payments for work on the home until June. Another progress account was not paid, but no reason was given.
Counsel for the Spencer brothers, Mr Richard Barrell, said there was major concern about the amount of labour employed and the time the work was taking.
