Situations Vacant Situations Vacant A# 'i » LAW COMMISSION LEGAL RESEARCH OFFICERS SENIOR LEGAL RESEARCH OFFICERS THE LAW COMMISSION is a statutory body responsible for co-ordinating and advising the Government on the review, reform and development of the law of New Zealand. It presently has vacancies for Legal Research or Senior Legal Research Officers and invites applications from suitably, qualified persons. The Commission’s Research Officers are an integral part of a multi-disciplinary research unit located in Wellington. They work closely with the Commissioners in legal research, the drafting of papers and reports, and consultation with interested parties. There will also be opportunities of working with! the Commission's Law Drafting Officer on the preparation of draft Bills. The Commission has received major references from the Minister of Justice, including requests to review the law relating to companies, the structure of trie courts, and the drafting and interpretation of statutes. The Commission also initiates projects and has la wide-ranging programme reviewing other aspects of New Zealand law. Applicants must have legal qualifications, preferably with an honours or a second or postgraduate' degree. They should have a proven ability to write well, an appreciation of the broader social setting of the law, and relevant experience in the public, academic or private sectors. Salaries will depend on qualifications and experience and will be within the range $25,000 — $43,000 for a Legal Research Officer and from $45,000 for a Senior Legal Research Officer.
