C.S.O. to present sacred classic
! . A modern sacred music classic will be the i featured work in the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra’s concert at the Christchurch Town Hall on Saturday evening. The work is Brahms' “A German Requiem,” to be sung by the Christ-
church Harmonic Society, Choir with the soloists Sarah Bell, soprani), and Roger Creagh', baritone. Saturday’s concert is the first in the C.S.O.’s autumn series. The baton for the concert will be taken byy the Rumanian-born
Erich Bergel, who has a personal love of choral music. The concert will begin with the Greig Piano Concerto, which has not been played in Christchurch for several years. The pianist will be Monique Duphil, who was born in France but
now lives in Hong Kong. The second concert in the autumn series will feature John Curro as the conductor. It will be in the Town Hall on April 9. The soloist will be Mark Walton. The programme will include Tchaikovsky’s
"Romeo and Juliet” Overture, the “concerto” for alto saxophone and strings by Glazunov, and Rossini’s “Introduction Theme” and "Variations" for clarinet and orchestra. The main work is Symphony No. 3 by Carl Nielsen, the "Sinforiia Espansiva."
