Gontcharova exhibition
The National Art Gallery's international collection includes a significant group of paintings by the Russian artist Natalia Gontcharova. These were donated by Mme. Alexandra Larionov and Miss Mary Chamot, an authority on the artist. As a way of celebrating these works, an exhibition accompanied by a comprehensive catalogue with
plates in colour and black and white has been published, and will show at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery from March 11 to May 1.
As well as the seven paintings from about 1908 to 1957-58, two important drawings together with a number, of books illustrated by the artist and a set of 114 lithographs on
loan from the Australian national Gallery will be incorporated in the project.
Natalia Gontcharova (1881-1962) and Larionov played an outstanding part in the developments which took plate in the visual arts in Moscow and Paris during the first two i decades of this century.
