Skater faces ban
NZPA-Reuter Oslo Norway’s Olympic Committee put new pressure on the International Olympic Committee (1.0. C. yesterday, to rule on whether the Soviet speed skater, Nikolai Gulyayev, should be banned from the winter games for alleged steroid smuggling.
Gulyayev, a favourite for the 1000 metre event at next month’s games in Calgary, is accused by Norway of selling anabolic steroids to the Norwegian speed skater, Stein Krosby. Steroids, used to boost athletic performance, are prohibited by international sports organisations and the 1.0. C.
