Prince has sympathy

NZPA-PA London Prince Charles has indicated his strong sympathy for the underprivileged Aboriginals of Australia. The Prince, who has been branded an “enemy” by Aboriginal activists, showed his feelings on the eve of the country’s official bicentennial celebrations.

He made his views known during a conversation with Australian actor Jack Thompson who had just delivered a speech in

which he praised Aboriginals.

Mr Thompson, compere of the Royal Bicentennial Concert, had told the audience of 10,00 C that it had taken Australia 200 years to learn something the Aboriginals had understood for more than 40,000 years. As the two men spoke, groups of Aboriginals staged a demonstration over land rights outside Sydney’s huge Entertainment Centre, venue for the concert.
