United hopes revived
NZPA-Reuter London Manchester United breathed new life into its disappointing season when it produced a classic counterattacking display to win 2-1 at Arsenal. United, desperate for some success to break out of the dominant shadows of Liverpool and Everton, climbed to third in the English first division, level on points with second-placed Nottingham Forest, but 17 behind the runaway leaders Liverpool. A spectacular individual goal by the Scottish international winger, Gordon Strachan, after only 12 minutes put United ahead as it bounced back from a dismal and unexpected English League Cup quarter-final defeat at Oxford on Wednesday.
