NZPA-AAP • . Sydney The Australian rugby captain, Simon Poidevin, has undergone an operation to reconstruct his left hand, badly broken on the recent South American tour. The middle joint in Poidevin’s left hand had to be replaced with a plastic joint in a unique operation. Poidevin suffered the break during the second half of the first test against Argentina in Buenos Aires on October 30. The specialist who performed the operation told the Wallaby skipper the hand should have been operated on immediately after it was damaged. “He told me an immediate operation would have saved the joint, Poidevin said.
