Mister Aythorpe records smart final trial
Special correspondent Woodville Mister Aythorpe recorded a smart gallop yesterday morning at Woodville in his final trial for the Gressier Anniversary Handicap at Trentham tomorrow. Gallops took place on the plough, which was in good order. Mister Aythorpe ran 1000 m in 1:1.6, the last 600 m in 375. It was a good even gallop which indicated the chestnut is ready for a big effort tomorrow. Lance O’Sullivan rides him. Mister Aythorpe’s trainer, Murray Baker,
has had some bad luck. His leading Oaks prospect, Miss Stanima, has a virus and has been turned out for a spell. Charade worked well in preparation for the Camp Handicap. She went with Waiamaco over 1200 m in 1:14.9, the last 600 m in 375. Charade’s race rival, Amalass, was not timed in her gallop. She was too fresh last week at Awapuni and should show improvement in her Oaks trial tomorrow. Logistical, another preparing for the New Zealand Oaks, completed her work with a sharp 600 m
in 35.2 s She appears to be thriving. Opera Queen, which heads for Gisborne tomorrow, took 1:16.7 for 1200 m, the final 600 m in 37.15. Bashful Lad and Bard ran 1000 m in 1:2.3, the last 600 m in 36.65. Bashful Lad will be hard to beat at Trentham on Monday.
