McKenzie Trust grants

This year’s J. R. McKenzie Trust grants to New Zealand organisations total more than $2.4 million — a record and more than $600,000 up on last year’s amount. According to Mr RoyMcKenzie, the trust’s retiring chairman, “silent majority” groups are more in need of funds than before and "urgent support needs to be given.” His "silent majority” referred to those groups working with families, children, distressed people and those with mental disorders. More than 25 per cent of 1987 grants go to organisations in the mental health field. Mr McKenzie retires after 17 years as head of the trust which,, since its inception 47 years ago, has distributed more than $l2 million in grants.
