Greyhounds Effortless win for Join the King
Join the King showed his readiness for the Summer Stakes, at Queen Elizabeth II Park on Thursday evening, with an effortless two-length win at the Timaru Greyhound Racing Club’s meeting at St Andrews on Sunday. Having only his fourth raceday start from Ray Adcocks kennels, the handsome black dog by Club’s Colours — Nardina Havoc was a shade slow from box No. 1, but quickly accelerated to a
clear lead rounding the first bend. Although Alpha Fuego tried hard to stay with him, Join the King was never seriously challenged after. Alpha Fuego easily held second with Tara’s Grace four lengths back in third place. The time for the race was a respectable 28.34 s for the 470 m considering the wet conditions. Join the King won his first outing at Chertsey at the beginning of Novem-
ber, but has since been unplaced at both Wellington and Otago. His win continued a fine recent run of success for his owners, Peter and Jackie McLay, of Christchurch, who also race the C 3 sprinter, Tango’s Delight Katisha produced the fastest time of the day over the 470 m when she recorded 27.955, to win the Temuka Spring Festival Challenge Trophy. Dungeon Master ran on solidly for second three
lengths away, and he looks ready for a bold showing in the Bower Egg Farm Stakes over 805 m at Q.E. II on Thursday evening. Other winners were: Hand Down (Veterans; 275 m; 17.295), Drip Dry (CO; 275 m; 16.855), Dawn Pride (C2; 275 m; 17.435), Say Diana (CO; 275 m; 16.795), Kotahi Prince (C2; 470 m; 29.295), Roaming King (CO; 470 m; 29.695), Cossack Wings (C 3 470 m; 28.325).
