Armed offenders call-out

A report of a man waving a shotgun led to an armed police alert in North New Brighton yesterday morning. Senior-Sergeant Kevin Burrowes said the police control room received an emergency telephone call about 9.20 a.m. The caller said there were three persons in a caravan at the rear of a Woodgrove Avenue address. “He said one of the persons had gone mad, waving a shotgun and pointing it everywhere.”

Detective Senior-Ser-geant Burrowes said the caller did not want to become involved and hung up. The police sealed off surrounding streets and two sections of the armed offenders squad went to the scene.

The occupants of the address came out shortly before 10.40 a.m. and were spoken to by the police.

A dismantled singlebarrel shotgun was taken from the address. A man has been charged with unlawful possession of the weapon.
