Deputy leadership

Sir,—Fred Bull (September 22) does himself and the National Party no good in distorting, deliberately or otherwise, the remarks of Mr Bert Walker in connection with the deputy leadership of the National Party. Mr Walker’s radio comments, which appeared in abridged form in metropolitan newspapers, were very complimentary to Miss Richardson, and I fail to see what Fred Bull is trying to achieve, unless he is expressing fear of the Sunday Club. If the National Party in Selwyn is no more reliable than Fred Bull’s statement, the political life of the National Party and its member of Parliament will be short-lived. — Yours, etc., GRAHAM DOUGLAS. September 22, 1987.
