Grasslands

Sir,—The biggest uplift coming to the economy is at the grassroots of our vast grasslands. We must change the longstanding practice of harvesting the grass seed supply from firstyear grass. First-year grass gives the most seed, but it is feed we want from our grasslands; to get true permanent pasture the grass seed has to come from older grass than first-year — the older the better. Seed certification tests have been made for 50 years. There is a purity and germination test and there should be an ability-to-live test Grass should not be harvested for seed until It is at least three years old.—Yours, etc., G. B. POWELL.
