Master Mood pleases trainer
The Prebbleton horseman, Kevin Williams, was "tickled pink” after Master Mood continued his preparation for the Tegel Chicken Flying Stakes at Ashburton later this month by bettering 3:8 for 2400 m in cool conditions at Ashburton on Thursday. Last season’s New Zealand Cup-Auckland Cup victor was not hurried by Williams from 70m behind in the Cl and faster pace at the Chertsey trials on Thursday, finishing third to Tact Stacey (It) and Sir Avon (20). Gina Rosa, also likely to resume at the Ashburton meeting in 15 days, was the co-backmarker with Master Mood on Thursday and also made ground well.
Tact Stacey, a three-year-old Nat Lobell filly from Tacten in Derek Dyne’s Winchmore team, was a juvenile winner at Wyndham last season in 2:3.4 (mile) and was the runner-up in the Leonard Memorial at Cheviot in four two-year-old outings. Moody Miss, a half-sis-ter by Plat du Jour to Master Mood in the Williams stable, cleared out to win her maiden heat by eight lengths in 3:14.2 (2400 m Mystic Bromac (Pat O’Reilly) won his CO pace in a faster 3:12. American Style, which was stood down from racing after the first night of the New Brighton meeting until he trials twice to the satisfaction of the stipendiary stewards, won the CO and faster pace in 3:9.2 without being extended. Donegal Castle was highly Impressive in his pacers’ qualifying heat, clearing out to win in 3:9 (2400 m stand). A three-year-old gelding, by Lordship from Messenger Bromac, Donegal Castle tangled slightly at the start, but went to the front with 1100 m to run. When Patrick O’Reilly put the pressure on at the 800 m mark, nothing could stay in contact and the close relative of Bobby Bromac won easing down with a gap of six seconds back to second placing, with the last 800 m covered in 57.45. t Royal Bomber (4g, El Patron-Whippy Jean) also qualified, but only justJn 3:16 in the first hear Time’s Money demolished the trotting field and also Shi by six seconds as it allfled In 3mln 17.3.
