Mormons open chapel to public
A new Mormon chapel, the first stage of a $730,000 development for the church in Christchurch, will be open to the public tomorrow. The new chapel of the church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints at 31 Mackenzie Avenue, Woolston, is the first stage of the church’s development plans for the site. Construction of a $560,000 additional chapel, cultural hall and gymnasium will begin in November. The new meeting-house is the fourth Latter-Day
Saints’ chapel in Christchurch and serves members in the south-east area of the city, known as the Opawa ward. A real estate agent, Mr Milton Odgers, is the present bishop of the Opawa ward. Other Mormon chapels are in Fendalton Road, Ashgrove Terrace, and Hulverstone Drive. During the open day, visitors will be able to see videos and displays of the Mormon church’s programmes for children and adults, as well as information on genealogy.
