Eight Canty players in schools’ rugby team
Eight Christchurch footballers have been included in the Southern Regions secondary schools’ rugby side to compete in the inter-regional tournament at Whangarei from July 10 to 12. The tournament will be of a quadrangular nature, with Northern fielding two sides against one each from Southern and Central. Southern will play Northern B on July 10, and the winner will play the-success-ful side from the CentralNorthern A game on July 12. Northern A has hot been beaten in this competition,
but South came close to it two years ago in the final and lost narrowly to its rival in the first match last year.The Southern players are: S. Forest, N. Stratford, C. Hall (Southland 8.H.5.), D. Kay, R. Cook, \D. Hailes (St Kevin’s), G. Davis, M. Eckford, A. Gardiner, S. Godfrey Christchurch 8.H.5.), E. Sparrow, J. Kilworth, B. O’Malley (St Bede’s), A. Cavill (Ashburton College), W.) Lidstone (Timaru 8.H.5.), A. Nevin (St Thomas’), P. Nepia (Tokomairiro), O. Iwashita, J. McCoy, L. Frew, G. Chittock (Otago 8.H.5.)
