Rubbish fires
Sir,—Sunday last we woke once again to the sickening smell of burning garden rubbish. The fire ban must have been lifted. As I fancy I live in a civilised city, I have to resent these people in and out of local government who continue to allow this fouling of the air. It is ironic that plans are afoot to build a tower for tourists. These welcome visitors come here in part to be able to breathe fresh New Zealand air, not for the hazy views and polluted atmosphere they are served at home. Christchurch must clean up its air. — Yours, etc., MARGIT DUTTON. March 5, 1987.
