Fisheries Project Extended
NZPA Suva The United Nations Development Programme has extended a Pacific Island project on fisheries resources and management for a further three years with approval of a $2.85 million grant
The South Pacific Regional Fisheries Development programme was established by U.N.D.P. 12 years ago for rapid shortterm assistance in fisheries because of the changing needs of the region. The new allocation brings U.N.D.P.’s investment in regional fisheries to nearly $ll.l million. The project, which is based in Suva, is run by the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation. It provides technical assistance in fisheries development and involves training Pacific Island people In all aspects of fisheries technology and administration, Including legal advice.
