Kaikoura harbour study

The Marlborough Harbour Board has agreed to underwrite the full cost of a feasibility study of Kaikoura’s South Bay as the site for a safe boat harbour.

The cost of the study is estimated at $20,000.

The board’s decision was announced yesterday by the Kaikoura member, Mr J. R. Abernethy. He said that he

was delighted with the outcome of the board’s deliberations. • The recommendation to proceed with the investigation put by the chairman, Mr B. J. Dalliessi, and seconded by Mr G. H. Robb, received unanimous support after it had been considered in committee by the board on Tuesday. The board already has

a list of 195 people seeking a berth in the proposed harbour. Most of the applications have been received from the Christchurch area but considerable interest has also been shown locally.

The vessels listed cover pleasure, fishing and charter boats as well as yachts.
