Four fastest times to Sumner in championships

Sumner Running Club women took the four fastest times in the Canterbury Road Running Committee’s 20km graded championships from Mathers Road to Tai Tapu last Wednesday. The fastest of the four was Marie Stokes, a leading Canterbury veteran, who recorded Ihr 19min ss. A surprise second fastest was Helen Grant, who only three days before had finished second in the women’s section of the Buller Gorge marathon in just under three hours. . She showed tremendous fitness to run the 20km in 1:20:02 and is obviously wellprepared in her bid to break her own record of 7hr 15 min in the Brighton Pier 50 mile

race on April 4. Kevin O’Sullivan (University), the present leader of toe committee’s A.H.L Precision point championship for the summer season, took fastest over-all time in 1:04:45. with Kevin Barnes (Christchurch) 13s behind.
