Switch to TV2
Sir,—Lynda Suggate (February 18) has obviously not properly read the recent letters by country readers protesting about the recent switch of TV programmes. Everyone mentioned three specific programmes, “Play School,” “Sesame Street,” and “3-2-1 Contact,” all educational and all produced for preschool viewing. These programmes are very valuable for children who are unable to attend kindergarten, and this is why we are angry. Incidentally, Mr Monaghan, director of TV programmes, and Mr Colin Hindson, head of public affairs for TVNZ, have given totally different reasons for the switch. Could we please have the real reason, or doesn’t anyone know? Is it just change for the sake of change? — Yours, etc.,
NANCY FARNELL. Havelock, February 18, 1987.
