Auckland swimmer awarded trophy
PA Dunedin John Steel (Auckland) earned the Life Members trophy for the most outstanding performance at the B.N.Z. national age group swimming championships which ended at Dunedin’s Moana Pool yesterday. Steel earned the award for his record-breaking performance of 54.50 s in the boys 13-14 age group 100 m freestyle. It was an excellent championships for Steel as he won five titles and broke four records. Steel, aged 14, is
coached by Lincoln Hurring in Auckland. The other outstanding performance on the final two-days of the championships came from Sharon Musson (Hawke’s Bay), who broke the 200 m back-, stroke record of the Edinburgh Commonweath Games gold medallist, Syliva Rume (Auckland). Musson’s time of 2min 21.64 s took nearly a second off Hume’s record. Other outstanding performances at the championships came from Michael Osmond (Bay of Plenty) and Phillippa Langrall (Canterbury),
