All cleared at Ashburton

Strong demand for wellconditioned sheep resulted in a complete clearance of about 17,000 ewes at the Ashburton County Adult Ewe Fair held at the Tinwald Saleyards yesterday. . Lines of station sheep sold well. Buyers were interested in both the strong wool ewes from Raromaunga Station, in the Rakaia Gorge, and the fine wool breeds from the Mount Possession, Barossa, Double Hill, Glenariffe and Redcliffe Stations.

A pen of 315 four-year ewes, sold on account of B. H. and E. C. Hutchinson (Double Hill), topped Corriedale sales with $20.25.

The top price of the day was $31.50, paid for a line of $230 Coopworth two-shear ewes sold on account of F. W. Ruddenklau, of Springburn. Buying power was widespread, with most purchasers coming from Mid-Canterbury. There was a strong inquiry for all breeds, and buyers were particularly keen to buy lines of well-conditioned sheep with good mouths which would be suitable for early mating.

There was a wide selection of all ages of sheep including some lines of mixed-age ewes.

Towards the end of the day interest in some of the lighter-conditioned lines faltered, but buyers were still interested in good quality. Sales included:
