Deadly ray landed
PA Hamilton A black stingray, measuring 2m across and 2.5 m long, and weighing 135 kg, has been caught in Raglan Harbour. Raglan fisheries officer, Mr Bob Cave, said the stingray, which is the true variety of stingray, was rarely seen in the harbour. The large sting on this fish was potentially deadly. Mr Cave’s grandson, Jason Ardern, caught the stringray with a shark lure, set on a steel trace attached to a 10-gallon drum with a small anchor.
