Sir,—With the National Party in power we could anticipate being re-welded to the proven aggressive policies of the United States. It is difficult to ascertain who actually rules America, the

C.1.A., the Pentagon or the multi-billion-dollar weapon cartels. Most American citizens deplore the Reagan contradictions — “we will never negotiate with terrorists” and “we will not interfere in the Gulf War” — two Hollywood script-writers’ blurbs scuttled by the covert Iranian arms deception. The C.I.A. operates in every country of the world and interferes with the internal affairs of many, pressing to obtain its objectives by economic, trade and political intimidation. Now that the American Navy deploys in the Mediterranean and the Gulf the whole world has the privilege to yet again hold its breath while the Reagan Administration decides whether or not to start World War 111 bn the pretext of “justifiable violence” through the authority of its claimed moral superiority. — Yours, etc.,
