Meat union award settled
P? Wellington Meatworkers will get $17.85 a week more next year after their award was settled in Wellington yesterday. The settlement figure was 85c higher than the employers’ last offer of $l7 made on December 12. At that stage the union was claiming a $22 a week rise, and also wanted an increase in the minimum wage payable under the award. The employers countered with a proposal to remove overtime provisions in the minimum wage agreement, and yesterday the union dropped the claim, removing the biggest' hurdle to settlement.
As well as the $17.85 a week wage rise, the new award includes a 5.9 per cent movement on allowances.
