Investments, Rigby Forest Industries, Kemp an Denning, J. W. Porta (Tas.), B. G. Clennett and W. A. McKay companies. he company is to develop a $3O million plus flitch recovery mill (sawmlll)/woodchip mill including a log yard chip storage and associated wharf and loading facilities. This facility will be located near Port Huon, Southern Tasmania, and will process over 500,000 tonnes of wood each year for domestic use and export overseas. The Port Huon area, where the appointees will reside, is located in a pleasant coastal rural setting forty-five minutes by car south of Hobart. Huon Forest Products has been allocated rights to harvest 360,000 tonnes per annum of pulpwood from Crown Land in the Southern Concession (former A.P.M. Concession) plus 50,000 tonnes per annum of pulpwood from privately held forests in the region. In addition, the Company will be purchasing 160,000 tonnes per annum of pulpwood from the A.N.M. Concession in the Derwent Valley, plus sawmill residues. Forest harvesting and management is to be geared towards maximising sawn timber yields from the forest in the short and long term and increasing the over-all productivity of the forests under the Company’s responsibility. The Company is seeking: (1) a Forests and logging manager; and (2) a Forester, who will report to the General Manager and be responsible for: @ development of management plans, working plans, and five yearly plans for operations for the southern forests in consultation with the forestry commission of Tasmania; © planning and development of the Company’s forest harvesting and transport operations for a commencement of logging around July/August 1988; 0 on-going supervision of harvesting and forest management, including road construction and pest and fire control in accordance with the Tasmanian Forest Practices Code, together with any other relevant forest management prescriptions; O negotiation and subsequent administration of commercial contracts with logging, transport and other operational contractors; ® co-ordination of the Company’s forest management, research and development programme, including investigation and development of eucalypt plantations and thinning programmes; 0 management of current operations within the Southern Forests on behalf of the company’s shareholders. Applicants should be qualified for admission as Members of the Institute of Foresters of Australia and have a proven record in forest operations.
