Cheque to help park walkway
The Arthur’s Pass Association has presented the local park board with a cheque for $5OO towards a historic walk round the township. A feature of the walkway will be several photographic plaques depicting former scenes round the township. Some of the association’s money will go towards these plaques and the rest to a brochure, a spokesman said. The walkway will be a major Arthur’s Pass National Park contribution to the celebration of the national parks’ centenary next year.
After the Arthur’s Pass jubilee celebrations in 1980 the association formed a history committee to collect and preserve historic material on the township and park. Research for more historic records was also done at the Canterbury Museum Turnbull and Hocken libraries.
