Detailed plan for Molesworth denied
2 A detailed management plan has not been prepared for Molesworth station and the public is being misled about its future, according to the conservation director of the Royal Forest and Bird Protection Society, Dr Gerry McSweeney. Landcorp, which will take over running the station next April, had claimed that a management plan to safeguard environmental, recreational and farming values on the property had been prepared, he said. However, no such plan had been prepared although general principles
for managing the station had been outlined in a Lands and Survey Department publication last August.
The department freely admits that the strategy plan is not a management plan but is simply a generalised forerunner to a full management plan which would identify areas for protection and production," said Dr McSweeney. The strategy plan did not set out which areas were suitable for farming or reserves, as management plans should, he said.
