Sprinters sold

PA Auckland The leading sprinters, Fothers and Apollyon, have been sold to an American trainer. The sale .was negotiated by Mr David Cole whose company, International Racehorse Transport, Ltd, arranged for the horses to leave New Zealand yesterday.

Fothers was second to Vin d’Amour on the 198384 Two-Year-Old Free Handicap. His wins that term included the Avondale Stakes, Wakefield Challenge Stakes, Great Northern Champagne Stakes and Radio Pacific Sires’ Produce Stakes. As a three-year-old, Fothers’ wins included the weight-for-age Tim Rogers Stakes at Wanganui. Apollyon, a six-year-old by Adios 11, has had six wins and nine minor placings from 32 starts. Both horses were trained at Pukekohe; Fothers by his part-owner, Kevin Foley, and Apollyon by his owner, Mr John Twomey.
