Another term for chairman
A Christchurch lawyer, Mr Oscar Alpers, has been appointed chairman of the Heathcote County Council for a second consecutive term. At the first council meeting last evening since the local authority elections, councillors reappointed Mr Alpers as County Chairman and Cr Gil Laurenson as Deputy County Chairman. Cr Peter McGrail was reappointed chairman of the works and reserves committee and Cr Laurenson reappointed chairman of the finance and administration committee. Cr Bruce Lili was appointed chairman of the town-planning committee succeeding Ms Margaret Buchannan, who did not seek re-election this year. Cr Alex Smith is the only new member of the Heathcote council.
